Days Of The Week Activities
Time
Our Days Of The Week Activities are an excellent way to help your students learn to identify, name and sequence the days of the week.
Download a variety of worksheets, puzzles and games to introduce Kindergarten, Preprimary and EYFS Students to early concepts of time.
Time is a tricky concept for students, it is hard to see and measure and it is usually managed by an adult.
Learning to tell time involves a lot more than reading the time on a clock, and this is something that is taught in the later years.
Time in the early years includes many important aspects such as:
- sequencing
- the duration or passage of time
- time past, present and time in the future
When teaching the Days of the Week your students need to learn:
- there are 7 days in a week
- the names of each of them
- the order in which they occur
- what the day is today, was yesterday and will be tomorrow
- link specific days to familiar events
- a week is a period of 7 days
- Monday – Friday are weekdays
- Saturday and Sunday are the weekend
- to be fluent in reciting the days of the week
- know what day comes before or after a named day
- to sequence everyday events in time order
- compare 2 events and decide which takes longer/shorter
- order 3 events from shortest to longest
Although there will be many opportunities to teach the concept of time incidentally and using a morning Calendar routine, the concept of time still needs to be purposefully taught in the early years.
We’ve put together a range of teaching time resources and days of the week activities to help you, so all you need to do is download them!
